Visual Supports

Overview

This page provides resources for educators to support the implementation of visual supports, an evidence-based practice for autism.

Definition: Using visual displays such as schedules, photos, drawings, words, physical or environmental boundaries, graphic organizers, or objects to provide information to a learner about activities, expectations, and/or routines.  VIsual supports can be used to prepare students for learning, to support skill demonstration, and to provide cues or reminders.  (Hume, 2013).
