  • Division of Early Childhood’s Recommended Practices with Examples - Developed by the Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional (DEC), these recommended practices with accompanying examples provide guidance to practitioners and families about the most effective ways to improve the learning outcomes and promote the development of young children birth through age 5, who have or at our at-risk for developmental delays or disabilities.
  • TASN IEP Trainings - On this page you can find webinars that cover different components of an IEP, as well as a webinar specifically focused on early childhood special education.
  • TASN CoTeaching - The TASN Co-teaching Project provides training and ongoing in-district coaching to educators supporting them to become proficient in the use of co-teaching practices.
  • Connect Module 1: Embedded Intervention - This module provides practical guidance on the use of embedded interventions that help children participate in a variety of early learning opportunities and environments promoting high-quality inclusion.
  • Embedded Instruction for Early Learning - This project website provides resources and information on embedded instruction and practice-based coaching.
  • Embedded Instruction Practices Checklist  - This checklist focuses on the characteristics of embedded instructional practice that can be used by a practitioner or parent to promote children's use of targeted functional behaviors in the context of home, community, or classroom activities.
  • What Do You Do When You Get There? Providing Itinerant Services in Inclusive Settings - This information packet includes ideas and strategies for providing itinerant services inclusive settings.
  • Systematic Instruction Practices Checklist  - This checklist focuses on the characteristics of systemic instructional practices that can be used by practitioner or parent to teach targeted skills and to promote children's learning and development within inclusive settings.
  • Naturalistic Instruction Practice Guide  - This one page handout provides an overview of naturalistic instuctional practices, which can be used during classroom activities to support and encourage child engagement in child-initiated activities.
  • Following the Child’s Lead Practice Guide - This one page handout provides an overview of the practice of following a child's lead, which can support children's participation, independence, and learning in classroom activities.

High Quality Inclusion Resources

  • Indicators of High-Quality Inclusion - This resource from the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) contains four sets of indicators specific to early childhood inclusion: state indicators,  community indicators, local program indicators, and early care and education environment indicators. They were developed by a group of national partners to support state leaders, local administrators, and front-line personnel in providing inclusive early childhood services.
  • What Makes Inclusion Work in Early Childhood? -This one page infographic highlight elements of high-quality early childhood inclusion.
  • Research Synthesis Points on Quality Inclusive Practices - This research synthesis provides descriptions and supporting references for evidence-based and promising practices to support early childhood inclusion. The practices are organized into three main sections corresponding to access, participation, and support.
  • The Inclusive Classroom Profile - This tool is an observation measure for assessing the quality of inclusive classroom practices for children with disabilities ages 2 1/2 to 5 years of age, in early childhood settings. The webpage provides an overview and introduction to the inclusive classroom profile.
