Title: UDL Video Club Protocol Tool To Elevate Lesson Design and Eliminate Barriers to Learning
Description: Viewing, reflecting, and discussing one’s own teaching practice through the use of videos can play a valuable role in supporting teacher learning. Teachers often do not have the time to reflect on their practice, and capturing lessons via video provides teachers with opportunities to analyze their instructional methods and the nature of student thinking. Teams will learn about an adapted version of the UDL Protocol by Jenna W. gravel, Allison Posey, Emily Ortiz, Christina rosethal Malden Public Schools of Malden, MA.
Pike Valley’s UDL Access for All Team explored video footage of teaching and learning over a 3-part series. The sessions were facilitated by Allison Posey (researcher from CAST and author of unlearning), Cindy Malone (Lead Learning Design & UDL Implementation Specialist), and Janet Peters (Inclusive Technology & Learning Specialist). The Pike Valley Team used the UDL video protocol during their experience. They will share their experiences using the UDL video club protocol to improve their UDL lessons, lower barriers and create UDL strategies to embed into their daily instruction. Teams will be provided with the UDL protocol. Participants will be given the UDL Protocol. Teams will be able to use this tool to empower teachers to deepen their practice of UDL.
Presenter Bios: Pike Valley Access for All UDL team members Stephanie Jensen (special education teacher), Katie Carlgren (Ag teacher), Becky Lamphier (math teacher), Elijah Moore (ELA teacher) and Jeremy Miller (Principal) will co-present on their experiences using the UDL Video Club Protocol.
Participants will consider how the UDL video club protocol could be used to:
a.) identify and anticipate barriers to learning and leverage specific UDL guidelines to reduce those barriers.
b.) deepen their UDL practice through collaborative reflection and analysis.
Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
