Course description

Kansans Can Competency Framework

Expand your skillset for coaching educators to build resilient learners. The Kansans Can Competency Framework, in collaboration with KSDE, is offering a 3-session virtual training series [April 2, April 9, and April 16, 2024] designed to promote quality instructional coaching on intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies such as self-efficacy. Register for the full series through this link

Schools and districts implementing intrapersonal and/or interpersonal competency instruction are encouraged to identify key staff who can serve in the role of a competency coach. Competency coaches are often instructional coaches, counselors, administrators, or teachers in grades K–12. Through this interactive series consisting of three 2-hour webinars, participants will better understand how to support their colleagues who are implementing competency instruction and guiding students’ practice of competency strategies. Participants will gain knowledge of six coaching behaviors and practice each behavior to improve educators’ confidence and agency while promoting students’ resilience. The six critical coaching behaviors include:

  1. Inquire authentically to gain a fuller understanding before making suggestions
  2. Embed specific, positive verbal reinforcement throughout the conversation
  3. Paraphrase to demonstrate understanding
  4. Inquire deliberately as a means to prompt reflection on areas for improvement or to provide clarity
  5. Provide relevant examples of content/practice in use
  6. Guide recipients to identify solutions to challenges/needs in the form of action steps

Materials for this training series includes three updated lesson sets of 26 instructional activities to increase self-efficacy at the primary, intermediate, and secondary levels available for free download here.

Course completers will earn 9 CEUs which are accepted by KSDE and the Kansas BSRB.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the series, educators will be able to:

  1. Describe the six critical coaching behaviors.
  2. Explain how each coaching behavior supports fidelity and quality of competency instruction.
  3. Facilitate a coaching conversation with your colleagues.

Refund Policy

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
