Session Information

Title: Real-World… A Co-Teaching Journey A True Story of Teachers, Wanting to Make a Difference, and the Journey to Making it Happen

Description: This session will explore the journey of implementing co-teaching at Hays Middle School in Hays, Kansas. We will discuss why and how we started, where we currently are today, and the next steps for HMS. We will also share some of the struggles that we’ve had, along with the success of the implementation through testimonials from teachers, staff, and students.

Presenter Bio: Amanda Walstrom is a special education service provider in Hays, Kansas. She is also a TASN Co-Teaching coach. In her role as coach, she provides ongoing support to the co-teaching teams at Hays Middle School. Amanda is also a co-teacher.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

Identify a district and building’s rationale for co-teaching.
Consider the implementation process of co-teaching including some of the barriers as well as successes.
