Course description

Whether it is cognitive science, educational psychology, or math education, research has long established that automaticity with basic facts across all four number operations is a critical foundational skill for children to master. This session will describe the importance of fluency from a science of learning perspective, address the myths associated with timed tests, tasks, and practice, as well as describe math anxiety. Participants will learn how to use Facts on Fire (M.I.N.D) to build fact fluency effectively and efficiently.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the importance of fluency as it relates to mathematical proficiency in later grades
  • Learn how to implement evidence-based routines to build acquisition and fluency
