Session Information
Title: The Power of Partner Assisted Scanning: Getting Started with Students!
Description: Direct access or pointing to a symbol may not work for all students. Partner Assisted Scanning can be a powerful alternative access option for students to interact with communication systems or engage with the curriculum. In this session, participants will learn about partner assisted scanning and how it can be used with students with complex physical and communication needs. Participants will leave with strategies and activity ideas to get started with partner assisted scanning to encourage communication and increase participation in the classroom.
Presenter Bios: Christina Kerr, OTR is an Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Team Coordinator for Maize Special Education Cooperative. Paige Buckingham, MS, CCC-SLP Speech-Language Pathologist is an Independent Contractor with Infinitec and Owner of Buckingham Educational Services & Training, LLC.
Learning Objectives
Learners will
- be able to identify what partner assisted scanning is.
- be able to explain which student profiles partner assisted scanning typically works well for.
- be able to identify 2-3 classroom routines that they could imbed partner assisted scanning into.
