Tri-State Webinar: Planning & Teaching in the New Normal Tips, Tools & Strategies

Webinar Description:

Efforts to reopen K-12 schools continues to be a moving target.  Whether you are beginning face-to-face, blended/hybrid, or fully online, there are effective strategies to utilize in planning and designing for ALL learners, particularly those identified with disabilities. Participants will explore ways to utilize digital tools and effective instructional strategies as they prepare for and begin the new normal for the 2020-2021 academic year. Together, we will explore ways to engage learners, design for potential barriers, and ways to utilize specific digital tools and resources to plan thoughtfully and effectively for ALL learners.

Learner Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify, understand, and begin to implement digital tools and strategies for the blended and fully online learning environment.
  • Participants will identify ways to plan and design for All learners using effective practices and innovative strategies.
  • Participants will understand ways to maximize ways to engage a variety of stakeholders (parents, educators) and get them engaged and supportive for ALL learners in the blended and fully online learning experience.

 

Presenter Information:

Sean J. Smith, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas. He is also the Past-President of the technology division for the Council of Exceptional Children, Innovations in Special Education Technology (ISET), and a member of the Board for the National Down syndrome Congress. Dr. Smith's research interests focus on innovations and technology solutions to support struggling learners and those with disabilities, particularly interventions aligned with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Framework. At present, Dr. Smith is the Principal Investigator on a federally funded project exploring the impact of virtual reality on struggling learners in the area of social emotional development. He also served as a Co-Principal Investigator on the National Center on Online Learning and Students with Disabilities.
