Course description

 Learn how to apply and adapt activities that lead to both fluency and number sense. Gain an understanding about the connections between fluency, number sense and building mathematical understanding. Techniques that create access and retention for all students, including English learners, and students struggling in math, are emphasized. Work through activities that simultaneously build number sense and fluency through reasoning, discourse, problem-solving, sense-making and practice.

 

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to build sustainable fluency and number sense for all students.
  • Recognize the rich array of tasks that lead to and work with both building numbers sense and fluency.
  • Gain several activities that can be used in classrooms right away.
