Course description

Join Kansas Infinitec for an online collaborative book study using Dr. Katie Novak and Dr. Allison Posey's book unlearning: Changing Your Beliefs and Your Classroom with UDL. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework to support educators in designing classroom instruction that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn. By following UDL guidelines, teachers can meet the needs of a diverse student population and extend learning opportunities to all students.

During the book study, participants will read the associated chapters, discuss and consider the reflection questions at the end of the chapter, and/or choose one of the resources provided by facilitators to further explore and put learning into practice. As Dr. Novak and Dr. Posey share in their book, change is difficult and our practices as educators don't just happen. As educators, we must unlearn—the process of unlearning is what needs to happen before real transformational change can happen. Kate and Allison state that "once educators have unlearned ineffective practices, we [Katie and Allison] contend that you will be closer to the teacher you want to be--the one who connects with students, is intentional about instructional moves, and inspires students to become architects of their own learning. This transformation, however, is not so much of learning about Universal Design for Learning as of unlearning ineffective traditional practices." Join us to learn more in a collaborative, supportive environment where reflection and discussion are key to our learning process.
