Course description

This session is part of the Kansas Infinitec Virtual Practitioners' Technology Summit on February 25, 2022.

Children with complex communication needs often have limited opportunities to develop written language skills which are just a piece of a student's overall comprehensive literacy skills. Predictable chart writing is a structured and engaging shared writing activity completed over a 5-day period. This model can be used and repeated with emergent learners to develop and enhance students' overall literacy skills. For students using augmentative alternative communication systems this activity supports existing vocabulary and supports growth of new expressive language. Join this session to learn how to get started with predictable chart writing and listen to how special education teachers have implemented this into their students' daily instruction.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • identify 5 steps to predictable chart writing.
  • explore classroom implementation of predictable chart writing.
